Everytime someone says “After”, at the beginning of a sentence, I hear
“After the war I went back to New York,
A-After the war I went back to New York"
just.
Every time.

I saw a post recently which stayed in the back of my mind, because; hey! that sounds batfamily related, too!
Like, people don’t understand Bruce. They don’t understand his kids, and they most definitely don’t understand how that family dynamic works. Because that family isn’t just a family, it’s a Team.
And Bruce isn’t just their dad / pseudo-father figure. He’s their mentor. He is Batman.
Bruce not only raised half of them for half of their lives, he trained them. He trained them to survive, thrive, and defend the innocent in any way they can, he gave them training, a very specific Bat-induced environment, and expectations. Dad-Bruce and Mentor-Batman are two sides of the same coin, and the Batfamily all know this to some degree. They have to, to be able to navigate those dual situations. They are the same person, with different personalities, and quite different priorities, a delicate balance.
People don’t understand how they can listen to Batman so quickly and effectively to the point of it being such an awe-inducing dynamic, no matter which one of his kids it is (although some of them have more experience + just have different vibes and it shows).
Well, because that’s their mentor right there. That’s their mentor, their captain, and their dad all in one- and they wouldn’t dare to disobey him in the field in a high stress situation or in front of external vigilantes especially if they’re outside of Gotham.
He trained them, he knows they’re weak points, he saw and scrutinised and helped and improved all of their fighting. He knows each of their nature’s intimately as a Dad, a Father, and as Batman - their Mentor/Trainer. He sees their potentials and their kindness. Those kids may be ride or die now, and have personal relationships & friendships with each other - but Batman and Bruce Wayne were the reason and glue holding them together. He may not realise it, he may think any one of his kids are better suited at this, and that they hold the group together - especially his eldests. But in actuality, Why Are They Here? How Did They Come Together?
Who Provides and Sustains and Tries To Help and Messes Up and Feels Unworthy but Loves (Adores) All Of Them Nonethless?
Who?
[Yes, if he just disappeared forever they would sustain - because he needs them to, they need themselves to, and because he trained them to, do not misunderstand me. They survive, and love, and thrive now - not because of Bruce’s morals or mission - because of his love, because of all that he did through his heart. His successes and failures. His bonding and pushing away. And I talk about everyone, all of his family if not children. All of their choices prior and subsequent to being Robin/Batgirl/In-training are inherently their own, and they should thank themselves for it. But don’t forget, Bruce introduced them to this life, for better or worse.]
